Three husbands—a dream come true or a pipe dream destined to break them all?
Mary Duncan likes to think she's as open as any modern 1960's woman, but when her boyfriend presents his vision of "family" she finds herself between twin brothers and a cousin—all willing to love her if she'll have them…together.
Loving Thomas and Paul comes easily, the sexy twins everything she'd never hoped to dream. If not for her new mother-in-law, the gossiping townsfolk, and the wall of silence from her own family, Mary would be in Montana heaven. Just as the young group finally start to find their footing with the new relationship, Duane Paraby returns from Vietnam, reluctant to join the relationship, but an integral part Mary refuses to give up.
When confrontation explodes around them, threatening to terminate their bonds before they're even set, Paul, Thomas, and Duane will have to prove they have what it takes to be Mary's men.

Beck`s prequel to Poppy's Passions is set in the 1960's and tells the story of the original Paraby brothers (and cousin) and their wife. This is one of the most realistic depictions of a permanent ménage relationship that I have ever read. The motivations for each to enter into this very unique relationship make sense and add to the believability of the tale. The readers are taken through the story as connections between each of the individuals are made and how they grow as a group. The new family faces prejudice, mother-in-law drama, economic hardships and even the reality of a Vietnam War veteran's PTSD.Why did I love this story so much? Mary's Men takes every overused ménage cliché and chucks them out of the window. Our heroine, Mary, is not the fragile broken woman that usually inhabits the ménage stories that I have read. Mary is a confident woman who supports and defends herself and her family. The individual men have their flaws and their strengths; there is no all-powerful, rich alpha male who run roughshod over others. The community that they live in struggles to accept this relationship and the drama of this struggle is far more riveting than any unrealistic plotline involving serial killers or mafia hit men! Lastly, the erotic elements of Mary's Men are very well written and honest - not the perfectly choreographed sex scenes that are so popular in most erotic romances.
I do have one criticism: for all of the realism of the story I did not feel that the author paid enough attention to world building in regards to the era that the story is set in. Several times the characters use slang terms that do not feel authentic to the era and intense drama of the times is not touched upon. I feel that the author missed an opportunity to add to the intensity of the work.
Regardless of my one criticism, I think that this is a great book. It will definitely be read again and I will use as a standard against which I judge other books of this genre. I highly recommend.

Mary Men edition by Stephanie Beck Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Mary is used to different lifestyles. She just never thought she would live in one. Her boyfriend convinces her she is the perfect woman for his dream life. That dream life includes Mary, her boyfriend, his twin and cousin all living as one family with Mary as the center. After some convincing Mary settles in as legal wife to Paul and wife in other ways to his twin Thomas. She loves them both and is starting to settle in in her new home. Duane is still away at war and she waits for the day he will be home to join her family. Things should be perfect for her she has men for her every need and they love and adore her. However her family won't speak to her, her mother in law hates her, the town is scandalized at their lifestyle and Duane comes back with problems for the war. The guys will have to do everything they can to help her get through the rough times and show her they are perfect for her no matter what anyone says.
Mary had a different lifestyle growing up so she is used to different types of relationships. She is a very open woman in the time she lives in. I liked her because she is a very caring woman who at times can be shy. She holds back sometimes with her anger but when the time calls for it she shows she can let it fly. She is also a smart woman who will do anything to help others. She is a very sexual woman as well with a big appetite the guys love to help her with. Paul is the farmer of the bunch who works hard. He may not have much but he has big dreams. I think he is the more down to earth one of the bunch to me. Thomas is a layer looking for work. He is the one who is very impatient at times but tries to please everyone. Duane has been damage but he also is one to take up for those he cares about and will protect them in any way.
I liked this story because in some ways it is hard to imagine in that time period. Yes I know there was things like that that went on but it wasn't heard of. I loved getting to know all the characters and how they take the things threw at them. They know what they want and won't give it up. This book has plenty of sizzle and steam that is sure to heat you up. I am so glad to see books changing form where a guy can have more than one woman but it's not ok for women. This book shows you how Mary manages to have three guys in her life in all ways. I liked the whole book as it has a good story line to go with the heat. The ending I have to say just made my day and finished on a great note. If you want a book with lots of heat that is amazing pick this one up.
I just wish it were longer. I enjoyed this book so much I wanted it to go on all the way through the birth of the boys until they became grown men. Keep the stories coming Stephanie!
Loved Mary,Thomas, Paul and Duane's story. Mary is a strong women with a big heart and an open mind. I loved how they met, the hardships they faced and how they presented a united front and became a family. An emotional and steamy story. Hope there well be more stories about Mary and her daughter in law Poppy.
